Rocky Hill Public Schools and Community Resources Quick Link to- Enrichment Program Quick Link to- Resources & Links Rocky Hill Public Schools Curriculum Development In the Rocky Hill Public Schools the instructional program is at the heart of the educational enterprise. This enterprise is supported by a well-rounded curriculum that is designed to meet the educational needs of the students and the community within the framework of the goals set by the Board of Education. The curriculum development process is designed to systematically review what is taught based on new research on effective teaching and learning. This process leads to an instructional program that is responsive to changes in local, state, federal, and global influences. The curriculum review process in Rocky Hill is a five-year cycle in which each content area is evaluated for effectiveness and changes are proposed to improve instruction. Presently the review process includes mapping the curriculum to insure articulation K-12. The Connecticut Standards are the reference point for all curriculum. At the district level, the effectiveness of the curriculum is monitored through student performance in the formal testing system. All students in grades 3 through 8, and 10 participate in the State Mastery Test and assessment of student performance. The results of these tests are presented to the Board of Education and revisions to the curriculum and instructional program are made to improve areas of weakness. In addition, all students in grades 2 through 8 participate in an assessment of student writing and reading in the Fall to monitor student progress. Throughout the year, curriculum-based assessments are used to monitor progress at each grade level. The professional development plan for the district is derived from the curriculum development process. The focus for professional development is teaching techniques, technological applications, and inclusionary practices.
