  Welcome to the
Official Website of the
West Hill Elementary School
School Year 2010-2011

West Hill School currently has approximately 641 students and 91 certified and non certified staff members. We provide art, music, physical education, and library media classes to all of our first through fifth grade students. Instrumental lessons for the strings program are provided in grades 3-5 while band lessons are provided in grades 4 and 5. We have a full-time psychologist, social worker, and speech pathologist to provide services along with a part-time physical therapist and occupational therapist. We also provide ELL services along with reading and math support. Special education services are provided for students who qualify. All classrooms are heterogeneously grouped.

We are proud to offer a large variety of programs and services for our students. We believe in "children first".

Our students at West Hill School continuously out perform the state averages in reading, writing and math on the CMT's. Our teachers provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of our learners through a balanced literacy approach in reading, our Trailblazers program in math, and our STC science kits/programs in science. We also continue to take the lead in our physical fitness scores. We are one of the top scoring schools in the state.

Our elementary schools have a standards based report card that assesses the students on specific learning targets. This provides the teachers, parents, and students with detailed information regarding the children's progress throughout the year. We are committed to understanding how our students learn and how to help them learn.

In addition, we have a very active P.T.O. that meets monthly. They are also active in planning enrichment activities, fund raising, supporting our school initiatives, and planning social activities. We also have a Principal Advisory Committee that meets monthly. A monthly newsletter is sent home to all parents to inform them of upcoming, important events, and school news.

We are proud to have such a wonderful school community. As a team of educators and parents, we help our children learn.
