Minutes of Meeting

A special meeting of the Facilities Committee of the Rocky Hill Board of Education was held on Thursday, September 23, 2004, in the superintendent's conference room. Present were: J. Kirk Bostwick, Catherine Vargas, Peter Arico, Technology Specialist Fred Ames, Director of Finance & Operations Gregory P. Turansky, Asst. Supt. Laura R. Boutilier, and Supt. of Schools Dr. J. A. Camille Vautour. The meeting was called to order at 2:30 p.m.

Mr. Ames provided a detailed overview of our current infrastructure for technology. He indicated that we currently rely on the Town’s wireless system to transmit data between the schools. The middle school and high school are currently connected via a fiber optic line. Mr. Ames indicated that we have reached the limit of usability with a wireless system and need to move to fiber optics for all of the schools.

Costs associated with a move to fiber optics require further research. Mr. Bostwick will share the results of this meeting with the Board chair. Furthermore this matter will be shared at an upcoming government Operations meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
