Minutes of Meeting

A special meeting of the Rocky Hill Board of Education was held on Monday, May 10, 2004, in the superintendent's conference room. Present were: Nadine Bell, Charles McMonigle, Francis Palazzolo, Catherine Vargas, Anne Schmidt, Attorney Robert Murphy and Supt. of Schools J. A. Camille Vautour. The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.

Dr. Vautour and Attorney Murphy provided an extensive overview of teacher certification requirements and the laws covering the hiring and termination of certified staff.

Discussions on certification centered on the number and variety of certificates required in Connecticut and on the training required to obtain such certificates.

With respect to hiring and termination issues, Board members were provided information on screening/interview practices in Rocky Hill. On the subject of termination distinctions were offered between non-renewal procedures for non-tenured teachers and the formal termination requirements for tenured staff.

The meeting adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
