“Penguins on Parade” opened at the Cora J Belden Library Thursday evening to parents, students, teachers, and people from the town. The 5th graders of Stevens Elementary School, using entirely recyclable materials, built these penguins. Each student designed and built a penguin with a specific theme. The penguin’s themes ranged all the way from athletes, singers, and red carpet celebrities, to astronauts, soldiers, and characters from films and movies. There was even a Harry Potter penguin! Stevens Elementary School Art Teacher, Jilani Scherer, got the idea for the penguins last year when the districts theme focused around going green and recycling. Now the penguins have become a tradition that 5th graders look forward to creating! The penguins will remain on exhibit in the children’s section of the Cora J Belden Library until February 4th.
